The metasoundtracks is a cultural and philosophical project.

So, what these are is mixtapes of IRL music inspired by different videogame universes. For example, in the American Truck Simulator one, you'll find country, trucker songs, as well as La Monte Young and industrial new-wave.

Oh, I know. It looks like some rando slapped a couple of songs together under a videogame title. Something a bad AI could easily ruin your day with on 2024 Internet. Still...

With these mixtapes, my aim is first, simply to have fun imagining a real-life soundtrack in the mood of a specific game universe, were it subaquatic exploration wonders, delusions of righteous violence, or a desolated land where all babies are stillborn.

Then, it's also a great way to discover musical gems and curiosities and face the challenge of making them unfold into one another like a coherent story, even if they were recorded centuries or worlds apart.

Finally, and more importantly, my aim with these is to make sense of these gaming worlds through the musical prism. All fictions are bigger than the tale we experience them through : the tale is only a window into the fictional universe. As an audience, we live and breathe into the tale's world and we know it's bigger than the story told. There are social, political, emotional, philosophical, cultural, and musical implicits in every tale. The metasoundtracks are a way to draw these implicits out, by taking parallels and shortcuts into the incredibly rich musical texture of our world.

What goes into being an american truck driver ? It's Americana, sure, road trippin, fun convoys and CB radio, but also boredom, cops, prison, hallucinations, misplaced love, sleep deprivation, physical exploitation, sacrifice, and tragedy.
